Mayor DeViet highlighted various events that took place throughout September. 

On September 9, Middlesex Centre celebrated its 25th anniversary since the amalgamation. The Mayor spoke highly of the event and noted that the community was very impressed with the various activities offered. The Mayor also spoke about the Ilderton Fair, which was very well attended and received by the community.

In Brief

During the meeting, Council also: 

  • Received for information a report detailing a cost-benefit analysis regarding the construction of an indoor aquatic facility for the municipality.
  • Received and approved an updated Procedural By-law. This by-law outlines the procedures for Council meetings in Middlesex Centre.
  • Received an overview of a replacement plow truck purchase and approved a budget overage as the purchase price came in above that previously approved in the 2023 budget.
  • Endorsed the Tree Policy. This policy sets out tree protection, maintenance and removal criteria, outlines considerations for commemorative tree planting, and identifies priority areas and yearly targets for tree planting. It applies to all municipally owned or leased lands, or lands in which the municipality holds an interest, such as a municipal road right of way. 
  • Approved a new Affordable Access to Recreation Policy, which will provide subsidies of up to $300 per eligible program participant. The program looks to ensure that no one is denied access to public recreation opportunities because of economic disadvantage.
  • Received for information an update on the composition of Middlesex OPP Detachment Board.
  • Received an update on the Middlesex Centre Community Improvement Plan and approved changes to the grants to be offered under that plan starting in 2024.
  • Received for information the minutes of the Community Services Advisory Committee held on June 19, 2023.

Next Council Meeting

The next regularly scheduled Middlesex Centre Council Meeting is set for Wednesday, Oct. 18, 2023, at 5:30 p.m. Please note that council meetings will be held at the Ilderton Community Centre for the duration of the municipal office renovation.
