Recreational Skating

Public skating and pick-up hockey are offered at the Komoka Wellness Centre (year-round) and Ilderton Arena (fall and winter). Note that the schedule changes seasonally, and may be adjusted for holidays and special events.

  • Fall Skating Start/End Dates:
    Komoka Wellness Centre – Programs run Sept 1 to Dec 23
    Ilderton Arena – Programs run Oct 4 to Dec 23
  • The Komoka Wellness Centre is Labour Day (Sept 5), National Truth and Reconciliation Day (Sept 30) and Thanksgiving (Oct 10).
  • All recreational skating and shinny is cancelled at the Komoka Wellness Centre on Sept 3, Oct 14, Oct 15, and Oct 22.
  • Ilderton Arena is closed on Thanksgiving (Oct 10).
Public Skating

Public Skating

For all to enjoy! Pucks, hockey sticks or equipment on the ice surface is prohibited.

  • $3.50 per person; $2.50 for those 55+
  • Saturdays, 1:00 to 1:50 pm @ Komoka – starts Sept 10 (Not available Sept 3, Oct 15 and Oct 22)
  • Sundays, 12:30 to 1:20 pm @ Ilderton – starts Oct 9

Adult & Preschool Skate

For children 6 years and under and their caregivers. Strollers and skate aids are permitted on the ice. Children must be accompanied by an adult (18+).

  • $3.50 per person; $2.50 for those 55+
  • Mondays, 11:00 to 11:50 am @ Ilderton – starts Oct 17
  • Tuesdays, 10:45 to 11:35 am @ Komoka

Adult Skate (18+)

For adults 18 years or older. Pucks, hockey sticks or equipment on the ice surface is prohibited.

  • $3.50 per person; $2.50 for those 55+
  • Mondays, 10:00 to 10:50 am @ Ilderton – starts Oct 17
  • Tuesdays, 9:45 to 10:35 am @ Komoka
  • Wednesdays, 10:00 to 10:50 am @ Ilderton – starts Oct 5
  • Thursdays, 10:00 to 10:50 am @ Komoka

PA Day Public Skates - Oct 24 and Nov 18

  • 1:00 to 1:50 pm @ Ilderton
  • 1:45 to 2:35 pm @ Komoka
Pick-up Hockey / Shinny

Adult & Preschool Shinny

Provides an opportunity for parents to teach hockey skills to children 6 years old and under. No slap shots, wrist shots or any aggressive forms of play. Children must be accompanied by an adult (18+)

  • $6 per person
  • Wednesdays, 11:00 to 11:50 am @ Ilderton – starts Oct 5
  • Saturdays, 12:00 to 12:50 pm @ Komoka – starts Sept 10 (Not available Sept 3, Oct 15 and Oct 22)

Adult & Child Shinny

Provides an opportunity for parents to teach hockey skills to children 7 - 10 years. No slap shots, wrist shots or any aggressive forms of play. Children must be accompanied by an adult (18+)

  • $6 per person
  • Thursdays, 4:00 to 4:50 pm @ Ilderton – starts Oct 6
  • Fridays, 4:15 to 5:05 pm @ Komoka (Not available Oct 14)

Adult Shinny

Self-organized, non-contact hockey for adults 18 years or older. Full equipment is recommended.

  • $6 per person
  • Wednesdays, 8:15 to 9:35 am @ Komoka
  • Thursdays, 10:30 to 11:20 am @ Ilderton – starts Oct 6

55+ Shinny

Self-organized, non-contact hockey for adults 55 years or older. Full equipment is recommended.

  • $6 per person
  • Mondays, 8:15 to 9:35 am @ Komoka
  • Tuesdays, 10:00 to 11:20 am @ Ilderton – starts Oct 4
Frequent Skater Discount Cards

Frequent skater?

We offer a discounted rate if you purchase a multiple skate "punch card" in advance. 

  • 20 Senior Skates = $45
  • 20 Child or Adult Skates = $63

Valid for public skating only; not valid for shinny. Rates subject to change.

Public Skating Rules

Please observe the following safety rules for the enjoyment of all skaters.

  • Everyone on the ice surface must wear a CSA-approved helmet.
  • All participants must wear skates while on the ice surface.
  • Those without skates will not be permitted on the ice surface.
  • Chairs, sleds, strollers, pylons and other obstructions are not permitted on the ice surface.
  • Skate guards must be worn in unmatted areas throughout the facility.
  • Food and drinks are not permitted on the ice surface.
  • Games such as tag or racing will not be permitted.
  • Refrain from carrying children on shoulders or in arms while skating.
  • The use of hockey sticks is not permitted during public skating sessions.
  • Refrain from throwing snow or ice.
  • Skate at a sensible speed, adhere to the directions of the arena staff members, and reports all accidents or injuries to the arena staff members on duty.
  • Skating backwards is not permitted during public skates. Wearing hockey equipment on the ice is not permitted during public skates.
  • Power skating or figure skating is not permitted during public skate sessions.
  • Wheelchairs are permitted on the ice providing that the operator of the wheelchair is wearing ice skates. Please keep the wheelchair next to the boards away from skating traffic.
Pick-up Hockey / Shinny Rules

For the safety and enjoyment of all participants, please following the Shinny Rules:

  • An adult (18+) must accompany children on the ice. 
  • No unruly behavior, profanity, or spitting.
  • No horseplay, body contact or fighting.
  • No slapshots. 
  • No lifting the puck.
  • No participants are permitted on the ice during ice resurfacing, or until the ice-resurfacer is off the ice and access doors are secure.
  • No sitting on the boards or loitering.
  • Player should leave the ice surface area to rest.
  • Please respect, listen to and follow instructions from the skate patrol and/or arena staff at all times.
  • Respect other participants and be courteous.
  • Report all accidents or injuries to skate patrol or arena staff members immediately.
  • All participants must wear a CSA approved helmet on the ice.
  • Full equipment is required for children and recommended for adults.
  • No headsets, cell phones or handheld electronic devices are to be used while playing.
  • Carrying of children is not permitted.
  • Maximum of 40 participants allowed on the ice at one time
