Mayor DeViet opened the meeting by reminding residents that Middlesex Centre has funding available through the Council Grants program and the Delaware Hydro Reserve Fund for eligible community groups. These grants are designed to fund events or projects that will help build community in Middlesex Centre.

The Mayor thanked District Fire Chief Launie Fletcher for going above-and-beyond in providing assistance to a group of motorists travelling though Middlesex Centre. 

2023 Structure Inspection Presentation

Ken Logtenberg of BM Ross and Associates provided a presentation regarding the 2023 Middlesex Centre Structure Inspection Report. The presentation highlighted the findings of the report, which focused rating the condition of bridges and culverts located throughout the municipality.

In Brief

During the meeting, Council also: 

  • Received information on the enrollment cap at Delaware Central Public School.
  • Received a summary of the OPP’s annual billing statement. This information is used for budgeting, in addition to understanding the service being provided to the residents of Middlesex Centre.
  • Received the budget to actual statement for September 2023. 
  • Received results of a request for proposal for municipal insurance coverage. The policy was awarded to Marsh Canada Limited for a one-year term with a premium cost of $878,318, with four additional one-year terms possible. The new policy represents savings of approximately 40%.
  • Received an update on the Fire Services Master Plan Progress from Chief Toth. 
  • Approved the 2024 council meeting calendar, which sets out the schedule for regular council meetings to be held in 2024. 
  • Supported Bill 21, Fixing Long-Term Care Amendment Act (Till Death Do Us Part). Bill 21 proposes to amend Act by adding the right of residents not to be separated from their spouse upon admission to a long-term care facility.

Planning Matters

Sitting as the Committee of Adjustment and in public meeting, Council received and reviewed a number of planning applications.

Next Council Meeting

The next regularly scheduled Middlesex Centre Council Meeting is set for Wednesday, Nov. 1, 2023, at 9:30 a.m. Please note that council meetings will be held at the Ilderton Community Centre for the duration of the municipal office renovation.
