Mayor DeViet opened the meeting with kudos for Middlesex Centre staff.

  • Community Services staff were recognized for their work on the Canada Day landscaping at the Ilderton Library. Their efforts helped lead the library to winning the Canada Day decorating contest run by the Ilderton Agricultural Fair.
  • By-law officer Dan Allaire was recognized for receiving his 15-year service award from the Municipal Law Enforcement Officers’ Association of Ontario.
  • Water and Wastewater Services staff were recognized for receiving two perfect scores (100% rating) on the recent Ministry of the Environment, Conservation and Parks inspection of the Birr and Melrose Drinking Water Systems. The detailed inspections review 15 modules, including operator certifications, logbooks, operation manuals, treatment processes and monitoring, among others.

During the meeting, Council:

  • Received information about the use of Cloudpermit for online planning applications. This system, currently used for Middlesex Centre’s online building permits processing, is expanding to offer planning applications as well. Throughout the summer, Cloudpermit will progressively be open for online submission of applications for minor variance, site plan control, consents and zoning by-law amendments. Later this year, Middlesex County Planning intends to broaden the type of applications in the system to include official plan amendments and applications for plans of subdivisions and condominiums.
  • Received an update on Ontario’s Growing Electrical Needs. According to the Independent Electricity System Operator (IESO), forecasts show that over a 20-year horizon electricity demand will increase about 2% annually due to economic growth. The IESO is sharing information as municipalities have a role to play in meeting Ontario’s electrical needs through planning, procurement, and locations for energy generation, transmission, and storage.
  • Received the budget to actuals report for June 2023.
  • Approved an agreement that will see Middlesex Centre provide Chief Building Official services to the Municipality of Strathroy Caradoc until the end of August.
  • Sitting as the Committee of Adjustment, considered a minor variance application.
  • Received an update, via correspondence, on the new Middlesex County Connect transit routes, one of which offers weekday service from Ilderton and Arva into the City of London.
  • Met in closed session to discuss matters related to litigation and a potential land sale. Questions related to closed session meetings may be directed to the Municipal Clerk.
