Marriage Licences

Every marriage in Ontario requires a Marriage Licence before the ceremony takes place. 

Applications

A Marriage Licence Application form must be completed and signed by both parties to the marriage. The form must be submitted in person by the applicant and/or joint applicant with the appropriate documents.

Requirements

Applicants are encouraged to book an appointment for the issuance of their marriage licence. A current passport (which includes a photo) or an original birth certificate PLUS one piece of photo I.D., i.e. driver's licence, etc., is required for both applicants. Applicants 16 or 17 years of age require parental consent.  Contact the Clerk's Office at 519-666-0190 ext 225 for further details. There are no residency or citizenship requirements. Blood tests or medical certificates are not required in Ontario.  A marriage licence is valid for use anywhere in Ontario for a period of three (3) months from the date of issue.

Office Hours

Licences are issued Monday - Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. To avoid delay, applicants are encouraged to book an appointment in advance. Appointments may be booked by calling 519-666-0190 ext 225.

Licence Fee

$ 125.00 - cash, money order, certified cheque, debit card.

Canadian Divorce

If a previous marriage was dissolved or annulled within Canada, the original or court certified copy of the Decree Absolute or Certificate of Divorce must be submitted. A divorce judgment is not acceptable. Certified copies may be obtained from the court which granted the divorce. Photocopies are not acceptable. All documents will be returned.

Foreign Divorce

If a divorce was granted outside of Canada, additional forms must be completed. Please contact our office at 519-666-0190 ext 225 for additional information.

Civil Marriage Ceremonies

An officiant from the Municipality of Middlesex Centre can perform civil marriage ceremonies. The cost for an officiant to perform a ceremony is $ 200.00 during regular business hours or $ 300.00 after business hours (if available).
