In 2015, Municipal Council approved the Green Builder Recognition Program. This program promotes sustainability in residential home construction by encouraging efficient residential designs. It recognizes local builders for incorporating sustainable building features and practices in their construction

In 2018, the Green Builder Recognition Program received the E.A. Danby Award presented by the Association of Municipal Clerks and Treasurers of Ontario (AMCTO). AMCTO presents this award annually to municipalities that "demonstrate an initiative or a willingness to explore innovative techniques that produces tangible results related to the efficiency and effectiveness of the municipal corporation"
