Municipal Council meets every first and third Wednesday of the month at 4:00 p.m., and the second Wednesday of the month at 7:00 p.m. for their regular meetings. Council meetings are open to the public, unless the matter under consideration requires discussion in closed session (i.e. legal, personnel or property matters).

At Council meetings the members discuss and act on matters of importance to the Municipality. Usually matters come before Council in three basic ways:

  1. Members of Council bring issues that concern them to Council`s attention;
  2. Municipal staff identify problems and ask Council to consider them;
  3. Individuals, organizations, community groups or businesses may ask Council to consider a matter that affects them.

When Council has all the information it requires, it will discuss the matter and decide what to do. If a Council decides that action is necessary, it may pass a by-law which are laws that are in effect within the boundaries of Middlesex Centre only. While a Municipality may pass by-laws on many matters, the Provincial government places limits on the actions a Municipality may take.

As a resident, you have the right to express your opinion on local government issues. You may do so by calling or writing to the Corporate Services/Clerk`s Department or to Council, in care of the Chief Administrative Officer/Clerk. You may also ask to speak to Council, and once again, you should make such a request through the Chief Administrative Officer/Clerk.

Local elections are held every four years in November. In Middlesex Centre Council consists of:

  • One Mayor and one Deputy Mayor - elected by all the residents of the Municipality
  • Five Ward Councillors who represent the former Township of London (Wards 1 and 2), the former Township of Lobo (Wards 3 and 4) and the former Township of Delaware (Ward 5).

If you are interested in running for Council and would like more information, please call the Clerk`s Office.
